On first use let the melt pool reach the outer edge of the glass and that the pool is at least 5mm deep before blowing out the flame.

On repeated use, trim wick to 5mm before you light, this will minimise debris falling into the wax. Place candle on an even surface away from flammable materials, and never leave a lit candle unattended.
