Inspired by the natural surrounding I'm so thankful for, I learnt the practiced use of many aromatherapy oils, regularly, to not only give my skin a welcome boost but to calm my "inner thoughts" too. Now that I have a small business involved in making skin care products, I thought I'd describe the characteristics of each ingredient found in my products.
This is a unique A to Z guide, allowing me to share with you my experiences of these wonderful oils, helping you to understand how they can benefit your body beautiful too, do enjoy!
Allantoin is often overlooked but it amazingly good at soothing, protecting and stimulating your skin with regards to treating scrapes, burns and cuts.
Sweet Almond Oil is excellent to reverse and prevent signs of ageing by renewing your skin cells, invigorating the skin ensuring younger, fresher and more radiant looking skin - it's especially suited to dry, sensitive and irritated skin as it softens, revitalises and nourishes skin.
Aloe Vera is wonderfully at soothing, cooling and healing dry, cracked or damaged skin. It's packed full of nutrients that help keep your body beautiful and healthy.
Apricot Oil is an alternative to Sweet Almond Oil for those with nut allergies. It provides your skin with moisture, reducing inflammation and damage from free radicals - as with most cold pressed oils, its nutrient and vitamin rich.
Avocado Oil is one of the more balanced moisturisers available, soothing itching and inflammtion, providing nourishment for dry, sensitive skin with high levels of Vitamins A, D and E. Avocado Oil with its excellent sources of Omega-3 moisturises and protects all skin types.

Bananas are a must for smoothing and moisturising dry, sensitive skin, they are rich in natural sugars, magnesium, potassium and anti-oxidants to keep skin glowing with health.
Beeswax soothes easily irritated skin, locks moisture into your skin making it feel soft and protected. It is particularly suited to those with sensitive skin, protecting the skin from irritants found in the environment.
Bentonite Clay helps to heal, cleanse your skin and reduces blemishes and redness. Bentonite Clay is able to bind bacteria and toxins, removing them from the pores of your skin leaving it free from irritations
An excellent oil for healing cold sores, acne, eczema and infections as it has anti-biotic, anti-bacterial, anti-septic and desinfectant properties. It also stimulates, relaxes and acts as an anti-depressant and sedative.
Beta-Carotene offers superb at revitalising skin and helping with acne by preventing pores from getting clogged, helping sufferers get clearer, glowing skin.
Cultivated from a low growing shrug native to Scotland, use as a repellent for insects such as midges and mosquitoes. Recent studies have found that it also has anti-oxidant properties, and diluted in a lotion can also help oily skin and acne.
Borage Oil helps your skin to restore its suppleness, elasticity and tone, especially tired, dry or scarred. Borage Oil is rich in nutrients that nourish, hydrate and regenerates skin, nails and hair.
Buttermilk is great for softening, brightening and exfoliating skin as it is rich in lactic acid, its astringent nature tightens skin too. Buttermilk is the liquid that is left after churning butter, and it isn't high in fat like regular milk though it still retains all the goodness.
Camellia Oil is quickly and deeply absorbed into your skin, leaving it refreshed, smooth and firm. It has natural anti-oxidants that help to protect your skin and keep it moisturised.
Canola Oil, also known as Rapeseed Oil is rich in anti-oxidants which help to protect the skin against the main causes of skin ageing, such as ultra violet light. This oil is high in Omega-3, -6 and -9, vitamin K to nourish and sooth too.
Carnuaba Wax is a natural vegetable wax provides protection and moisture retention for your skin. It's exuded from the leaves of a palm tree which is grown in Brasil.
Castor Oil is a natural emollient that is deeply absorbed into the skin and helps to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin which softens and hydrates the skin. A wonderful natural treatment for wrinkles as it restores and rejuvenates the skins natural youthfull appearance...an excellent massage oil that is used to relieve arthritic joints and sore muscles.
Cetyl Alcohol gives creams and lotions added thickness and moisturising benefits, it helps to emulsify oils and water. Cetyl Alcohol is derived from vegetable oils.
Chamomile is one of the more well known herbs for its anti-septic, anti-biotic, anti-inflammatory benefits. Often found to be useful in treating and protecting wounds, cuts and bruises, especially against infection.
Cocoa Butter is absorbed deeply into your skin to hydrate, protect and nourish from within, which can be helpful for many skin problems such as eczema, dermatitis and skin irritation. Cocoa Butter contains a number of different anti-oxidants which can neutralise the free-radicals, prevent your skin from being damaged.
Coconut Oil is light, easily absorbed and with its anti-oxidant and anti-microbial benefits gives your skin protection against microbial infections, soothing and healing to dry or chapped skin (especially lips!)
Fullers Earth improves the texture of your skin, removing blemishes to give your skin a radiant glow. Fullers Earth cools down irritated skin, reduces redness and soothes, making it ideal for those with acne-prone skin or if used with milk, dry skin.
Frankincense promotes the regeneration of healthy cells, speeds up the healing of cuts, acne, insect bites, it generally tones and tightens skin all over your body, while simultaneously replacing old or dying cells with new, healthy ones.
Geranium has the ability to balance hormones, reduce inflammation and irritation, reducing the presence of wrinkles by tightening the facial skin and overall improve the health of the skin. Its anti-bacterial, anti-micorbial and hemostatic actions protect against infections, which aids healing and prevents toxins from entering through open or unclotted wounds.
Vegetable glycerine draws water to your skin helping to keep it hydrated and toned. Glycerine is suited to all skin types and can be used on its own or boosts the properties of others such as Aloe or Honey.
Goat's Milk has a pH level close to that of your skin and has been proven to aid in reducing skin irritation. Its a gentle exfoliant with its levels oc lactic acid, combined with the rich nutrients leaves your skin healthy and rejuvenated.
Hazelnut Oil is an astringent oil rich in vitamins, particularly various B's, proteins and nutrients making it an ideal oil for acne-prone skin as it calms and provides balance to over-active oil glands. Hazelnut Oil naturally conditions skin leaving it soft, plump and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Jojoba Oil is the nearest "oil" to our skins sebum (our skins natural oil), therefore its easily absorbed, balancing and declogging skin, keeping it supple, conditioned, moisturised and soft. This natural wax suits all skin types, and also provides key vitamins and nutriets for healthy glowing skin.
Kaolin is one of the mildest of clays, it soothes, nourishes, and offers gentle detox and cleansing without drying or irritating your skin. Kaolin is particularly suited to sensitive skin.
Lavender is a powerful anti-septic and has been used for many years for its ability to heal wounds, cuts, burns and sunburn rapidly. Lavender increases the growth of cells and can aid in the formation of scar tissue, it can also help with skin inflammation, proving valuable for conditions such as eczema, acne and itchy skin.
Lemon Oil promotes healing through its anti-septic, anti-fungal and anti-viral benefits, helping to treat various skin disorders such as acne and pimples. Lemon oil rejuvenates sagging, tired looking skin with its astringent, detoxifying nature making it the first oil to reach for when treating excess oil on the skin.
Lemongrass has all the benefits of a citrus oil with its fungicidal, bactericidal, anti-micorbial and anti-septic properties, however it has a more mellow and pleasant smell. Lemongrass Oil makes a good application for anti-septic lotions and creams, to promote healing and healthy glowing skin.
Macadamia Nut Oil gives your skin a healthy amount of protein, fibre, Omega-3, -6 and -7, which helps to provide an anti-ageing effect - ideal for dry or mature skin. It makes skin softer, firmer, fewer wrinkles and more yourthful because Macamadia Nut Oil promotes healing and regeneration for skin.
Mango Butter softens, soothes and moisturises your skin, helping to combat dry skin, eczema and dermatitis. It is an astringent butter rich in anti-oxidants and anti-ageing benefits, suitable for all types of skin, but particularly good for mature or oily skin.
May Chang has a pronounced anti-fungal action, making it very useful in treating infectious skin conditions such as Athlete's Foot. It also has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory benefits too, it's slightly astringent nature works to cleanse your pores, heals existing flare-ups of conditions such as Acne.
Myrrh helps to maintain healthy skin, soothing chapped or cracked skin and prevents premature skin ageing with its powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. It's also full of powerful anti-fungal and anti-viral properties as well.
Neem Oil is not only a natural insecticide, it has anti-bacterial and anti-hesitamine benefits. With high levels of anti-oxidants to defend the skin against age promoting free radicals, with regular usage Neem Oil smoothens wrinkles and fine lines, thus fights the signs of ageing.
Niaouli Oil helps your wounds heal faster and keeps them protected and free from infections by killing and inhibiting bacteria growth, particularly when used with any lotion or cream.
Olive Oil naturally protects the skin from premature ageing with its high levels of three major anti-oxidants - Vitamin E, Phytosterols and Polyphenols. Olive Oil helps to restore and protect the skin leaving it smooth and loved.
Sweet Orange with its uplifting scent is one of the more popular oils used in skincare today. It's wonderful for treating stress, as well as colds and flu and as with other citrus oils has healing anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-septic benefits.
Palm Oil is widely used in soaps as it gives lots of stable lather, it also full of phyto-nutrients, vitamins and anti-oxidants. It will moisturise and soften skin whilst it cleanses. We source our Palm Oil from sustainable plantations that are organically grown.
Palmarosa helps to hydrate, balance and regenerate skin to maintain its health, suitable for all skin types but extremely helpful for dry and damaged skin. It also helps fight infection in wounds and prevent scarring.
Panthenol is also known as Pro Vitamin B5, it will hydrate, smooth and maintain your natural moisture balance. It also dimishes wrinkles by infusing moisture into the deeper layers of your skin.
Patchouli helps with many skin complaints, from dry, cracked skin all the way to helping to regulate oily, acne prone skin. Patchouli is wonderful for healing even the most sensitive or stressed conditions and has a pleasant musky smell that can compliment other oils nicely.
Stimulating with cooling menthol can soothe irritated and dry skin, it can also improve the texture of oily or greasy skin. Peppermint Oil also has anti-septic, regenerative and anti-fungal benefits too which helps to heal and provides nourishment to dull skin.
Pumice which is ground into a fine powder to produce a mild exfoliant is excellent for smoothing rough skin on the feet, knees and elbows.
Packed with minerals, Rhassoul Clay gently buffs, polishes and tones your skin, helping to keep it firm, wrinkle free by improving your skins natural elasticity. It is extremely effective at detoxing your skin, replenishing the minerals it has lost.
Safflower Oil may prevent dryness and roughness with its levels of Omega-6 and essential vitamins, it also removes dirt and oil. It hydrate to provide a key treatment for issues such as eczema and acne, providing the skin with a healthy glow, promoting elasticity and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
Sea Buckthorn Oil is one of the key "super foods" for your skin, giving it key nutrients that help to improve your skin's elasticity by hydrating and regenerating maturing or damaged skin. It's packed full of anti-inflammatory and analagesic benefits that can providing the skin with its natural "building blocks" (Omega-7)
Shea Butter that is organic, unrefined and sustainably grown has none of the great benefits taken out by over-processing it. Raw Shea Butter is naturally rich in vitamins A, E and F, giving your skin much needed nourishment, moisture and protection - even sensitive skin loves Shea Butter for it is deeply moisturising.
Soya Bean Oil has long been known for its health benefits, research into the use of this oil for skincare has shown multiple benefits, such as softening, smoothing and healing. Soya Bean Oil is naturally high in lecithin, sterolins and Vitamin E.
Sorbitan is hypo-allergenic, reduces water loss from your skin and has a high moisturising effect, its a unique, natural and organic emulsifier from Olive Oil.
Stearic Acid although found in oils such as Cocoa Butter, it can be used separately to thicken skincare products. It forms an important component of stratum corneum lipids.
Sunflower Oil makes skin glow and helps keep it youthful due to it being packed full of vitamins A, D & E. It helps to keep your skin moisturised and nourished.
Tea Tree is one of the worlds most potent healing plants with its powerful anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, anti-septic, anti-viral, fungiside and insecticide, Tea Tree Oil can help to cure the most dangerous bacterial infections such as those found in the tropics.
Vanilla offers protection from free radicals with its anti-oxidant and anti-carcinogenic benefits, however it is also tranquilising and relaxing too - acting as an anti-depressant and sedative.
Ylang Ylang helps to speed up the healing process, extremely effective and maintaining moisture and balance of the skin, keeping it looking hydrated, smooth and young. Ylang Ylang also offers protection against bacteria, viruses and fungi.
Yoghurt is a must for helping keep your skin nourished, clear and glowing with health. It's full of powerful nutrients, vitamins and minerals that reduces irritation, tightens and hydrates your skin.
